Spotlight: Krissee Danger on Solving Problems, Learning New Skills, and Helping Families Share Their Stories

Written by The Chptr Team | Jul 1, 2026 1:15:29 PM

At Chptr, we're fortunate to work alongside people who enjoy solving problems and aren't afraid to learn something new. Krissee has built her career across startups, nonprofit organizations, and mission-driven organizations, bringing a collaborative mindset and a willingness to figure things out along the way.

Before joining Chptr in February 2025, Krissee worked at a small startup-style nonprofit, a film production company, and spent many years at Zappos, where she also worked with the Downtown Project. Along the way, she developed a love for startup environments where every day presents a new challenge. Today, as Product Operations Manager at Chptr, she works closely with the engineering team to keep projects moving forward and help families share meaningful stories with their communities.

"Every community and culture has its own desires, needs, and practices to remember the people they have lost. It has really opened my eyes not only to the many ways people grieve, but also to how they make sense and meaning of that grief."

-Krissee Danger, Product Operations Manager

What past experiences have most shaped how you approach this role today?

Both my personal and professional experiences have shaped the way I approach this role.

Having lost people close to me, I understand how overwhelming grief can feel. At the same time, I know how meaningful it is for families to have the opportunity to share someone's story and celebrate their life.

Professionally, my years working at startups taught me to stay calm when faced with unfamiliar challenges. I actually enjoy not knowing how to do something at first and then figuring it out. That mindset continues to shape how I work alongside our engineering team to solve problems every day.

What is something you've learned about the local news or media landscape that surprised you?

One of the most surprising things I learned is that most television stations east of the Mississippi start with a "W," while most stations west of the Mississippi start with a "K."

It's a small detail, but it's become surprisingly useful when working with television stations across different parts of the country.

What is a skill you've had to develop quickly in this role?

Video editing.

Before joining Chptr, I would have described myself as an extremely novice video editor. As the company grew, I quickly learned how to edit memorial videos while supporting the product. I rarely need to edit videos now, but learning that skill was one of the biggest adjustments I made early in my role.

How has working in this space changed your perspective on how communities experience loss?

Working in deathcare has shown me that every community, culture, religion, and family has its own traditions, needs, and ways of remembering the people they love.

It's opened my eyes not only to the many ways people grieve, but also to how they make sense and meaning of that grief. There isn't one right way to honor someone's life. Every family finds meaning in its own way, and every story deserves to be shared with care.

What does it feel like knowing your work helps shape how someone's life is shared with an entire community?

It's an honor to play even a small part in helping families celebrate and grieve someone they love.

Knowing that my work contributes to sharing a person's story with their community gives me a real sense of purpose. It reminds me that even the behind-the-scenes work can make a meaningful difference for the families we serve.

Final Thoughts

Krissee's career has taken a nonlinear path through startups, nonprofit work, and operations, but one thing has remained consistent. She enjoys learning new skills, solving problems, and working with teams that embrace challenges instead of being overwhelmed by them.

At Chptr, that mindset helps support the work of sharing stories that matter. Whether learning an entirely new skill like video editing or collaborating with engineering to solve the next challenge, Krissee brings curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine appreciation for the role Chptr plays in helping families remember the people they love.
